Syrian social entrepreneurship – الريادة الاجتماعية السورية
When I was a kid I started to hear names for rich people. Well known families in Aleppo, and well known of their fortune (Sabbagh, Olabi, Azzouz and others). When I grew up. I started to hear names from a larger scale (Attar, Da’boul, Hamsho and others).
It was known in Aleppo that these names are like stars. You might see them! You might hear of them! But you can never get near them! That was alright to me. Everyone is saying so…
I had the chance to go to Dubai in 1999. I was planning to settle down there. But I couldn’t adapt to weather and culture. And I heard of heavy names (Al futaim, Al khourafi).
I became 21 in 2001 and I moved to the states. Microsoft, Dell, time warner and many companies were all star companies. Amazon was the big shot back then (a guy who started from his garage). Since 2001 I started to hear and SEE entrepreneurs! They were so publicly active! Not only that. I started to hear of deals! A big company or investors buys a small startup company and gives the entrepreneur behind that small company a big boost!
I studied business, and I never heard in the university of Something called Business plan! I never heard of something called exit plan! I didn’t know that business plans might attract investors or companies to play a role in that plan. I DIDN’T KNOW COMPANY IS NOT SOMETHING YOU CREATE AND IT DIES WITH YOU (typical Arabic style of a company).
2010 – ArabNet was all the shock to me! Beautiful business men from Jordan. Samih Tokan (Maktoob), Fadi Ghandour (Aramex), the great mentor Maher and others. Are actually supporting the idea of startup business! They are not sitting and counting money in their bank accounts.
I can’t understand how our arab countries can grow. If no one supports startup business? I want to smash that stupid idea I hear all over Syria especially in Aleppo. That young people can’t do proper business. They have to listen to old people. And what??? Do business in the 30s or 40s style? The problem is that I know many friends are doing nothing! Absolutely nothing! And their dads are sitting on tons of money. The answer is that the dad doesn’t want to see the number of his account going down. As simple as this.
I’m glad I got the chance to know the great Jordanian business men. They are socially active! VERY active. And they are just looking to do things can last. NOT to die with them. I have a lot of respect for them. On the other hand, I have no respect for those trying to save their pennies and kill the next generation.
لما كنت ولد بلشت (بدأت) اسمع باسماء ناس اغنياء. اسماء معروفة بحلب ومعروفين بالغنى (صباغ, علبي, عزوز وغيرون). ولما كبرت بلشت اسمع اسماء ناس من حجم اكبر (عطار, دعبول, حمشو وغيرون)
كان معروف بحلب انو هلناس متل النجوم. ممكن تشوفون أو تسمع فيون بس بحياتك ما ممكن تفرب منون. ما كان عندي مشكلة بهلشي, بالنهاية الكل هيك عبقول
اجتني الفرصة اني اطلع عدبي ب 1999. وكنت مقرر استقر هنيك. بس ما قدرت اتأقلم من الجو والحياة هنيك. بس كمان سمعت باسماء من العيار الثقيل (الفطيم, الخرافي)
صار عمري 21 بال 2001 وقررت بوقتا انتقل لاميركا. مايكروسوفت, ديل, تايم ورنر وكتير شركات تانية كانت شركات خيلة. امازون بوقتا كان الحكي كلو عليه بوقتا (شب بلش من الكراج تبعو). من سنة 2001 بلشت اسمع واشوف رجال اعمال رياديين! وكانوا اجتماعيا نشطين جدا! مو بس هيك. بلشت اسمع بصفقات! شركة كبيرة او مجموعة مستثمرين اشتروا شركة صغيرة جديدة وعطوا الشب الريادي اللي ورا الشركة دفعة كبيرة!
درست اقتصاد (بحلب), وبحياتي ما سمعت بالجامعة عن شي اسمة خطة عمل! بحياتي ما سمعت اسمو خطة الخروج من العمل! ماكنت بعرف انو خطة العمل ممكن تجذب مستثمرين او شركات كبيرة مشان تلعب دور بهل خطة عمل. ما كنت بعرف انو الشركة مو شي بتبلش فيو انت وبتموت معك (هي الفكرة العربية السائدة عن الشركات)
بمؤتمر عرب نت 2010 كانت الصدمة الأكبر لإلي! رجال اعمال من اجمل ما يمكن من الأردن. سميح طوقان(مكتوب), فادي غندور (ارامكس), والأب الروحي المميز جدا ماهر قدورة وغيرون. كانوا عبدعموا بشكل قوي جدا أفكار الشباب الصغار. ما عبعدوا ارقام حساباتون بالبنوك.
ما عبئدر أفهم كيف بدو يكبر الوطن العربي. اذا ما حدا رح يدعم المشاريع الصغيرة؟ بتمنى اسحق الفكرة الغبية المنتشرة بسوريا وخاصة حلب. انو الشباب ما بيئدروا يقوموا باعمال بشكل صحيح. لازم يسمعوا للكبار. وبعدا!!؟ بنساوي افكار شركات من التلاتينات أو الأربعينات؟ المشكلة انو انا بعرف ناس حوالي كتير وشباب بعمري واصغر واكبر, جالسين ما عبساووا شي طاول. ابدا! والاباء جالسين على ارقام مذهلة من الأموال. الجواب انو الأب مابدو يشوف رقم الحساب تبعو عبيصغر. ببساطة شديدة.
انا سعيد جدا اني صحتلي الفرصة اتعرف على رجال اعمال مميزين من الأردن. وفعالين اجتماعيا! كتير فعالين! وعبحاولوا يعملوا اشياء تستمر. ما تموت معون. انا بحترمون بشكل كبير. وبالطبع ما عندي ادنى احترام لاي شخص بحاول يوفر قروش ويقتل جيل قادم.
تمام متل ما قلت أخوي : أسباب المشكلة هنن أولا الأهل (اللي مو فاضيين لا يفتحو لولادهم مشاريع صح لأنو هنن أصلا ما عرفوا شلون أجتن المصاري ولا عرفوا يحطوهم بجامعات فهيمة تعلمن يجيبوا مصاري) وتانيا الغباء التدريسي اللي أنا أصلا ضده من الروضة للدكتوراه
